MP&W Selects Dascom for IPTV Headend Services

Feature-rich Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is coming to Muscatine as part of MP&W’s Fiber to the Home project. The Utility selected another key contractor to facilitate the conversion of the local cable television system to IPTV. Dascom Systems Group, a full-service integrator of IPTV services headquartered in Woodbury, MN has been tapped to provide IPTV engineering and integration services.

Dascom is the leading integrator of legacy and next-generation IPTV systems in the telecommunications industry with more than 180 service providers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

“After months of planning, engineering and preparation, things are starting to fall into place quickly now,” said Erika Cox, Customer and Employee Relations Director. “Most of the work up to this point has been design work. With Dascom and other contractors and vendors on board, installation of new equipment in the headend and efforts toward making those new systems work together will gain steam in the weeks ahead.”

The Dascom pick follows the selection of IPTV middleware provider, Innovative Systems, and the fiber network system contractor Atlantic Engineering Group (AEG) over the past few weeks. Additional manufacturers, vendors and contractors are expected to be firmed up soon.

“The Utility’s headend is the nerve center of both our Internet and video systems,” said Tim Reed, Utility Service Delivery Director. “Dascom has vast experience in headend design. By leveraging their knowledge of system hardware and software, we expect a seamless transition to IPTV and years of reliable service to our customers.”

The headend design and integration work will run concurrently with system construction in the field throughout the spring. Neighborhood-level networks will be built out this summer with the first residential customers converted to fiber as early as August 2017.

“Dascom Systems Group is looking forward to providing system design and integration assistance to Muscatine Power & Water as they roll out next generation service offerings to their customers,” said Dan Takkunen, Dascom Systems Group CEO.

Customers interested in getting the latest information about the Fiber to the Home project are encouraged to register as a “Fiber Fan” at mpw.org/fiberfans. Fiber Fans will receive email and/or text notifications as new construction and installation information becomes available.
